Our Story

Welcome to Lotus

Lotus Dumpling Bar has become the choice for the pre or post-theatre crowd in the creative hub that is Walsh Bay.

The Lotus Dumpling Bar began life as a warehouse built in the early 1900s for the Sydney Port Authority. There are still hints of that history in the rustic space with its polished copper tones, beautifully exposed brickwork, pastel bentwood chairs and lush potted greenery.

As well as referencing its gritty past, the handsome eatery presents a contemporary Chinese dining experience in the heart of the picturesque precinct, which has become a magnet for corporate crowds as well as creative types.

While those famed dumplings are at the heart of the menu, the bill of fare is also broader than that, presenting an altogether modern take on authentic Chinese flavours, while respecting the traditions that underpin the cuisine. Lotus’ exquisite hand-made dumplings sit alongside a produce-driven collection of rice and noodle dishes, wok-fried seafood and juicy spiced meats, all showcasing the finest of fresh seasonal ingredients.

Just a few chopstick lengths from both the Sydney Theatre Company and the water’s edge, Lotus is ideally placed for get-togethers with friends, lunches, dedicated theatregoers and intimate date-night dinners.

Drink

Where handmade dumplings and the modern wine bar meet

This is the place to be for those pining for a place that serves cocktails with a pan-Asian twist. Ingredients such as lime, mint and more make cameos in cocktails that will delight folk who like their firewater to be feng shui.

Tea will soon be a house speciality with Lotus launching its own private label “Lo Tea” in July 2015. Look forward to some beautiful organic green and black teas.

Fresh lime wedges muddled with mint, rolled with Licor 43,

Dragon’s Passion

Absolut Vanilla shaken with passion-fruit juice,
agave syrup, lychee syrup and lime juice.
Served in a Martini glass with Lychee garnish.

Red Lotus Sour

Disaronno shaken with lychee liqueur,
lime juice and egg white.
Served in a coupe with grenadine float.

My Tai

Havana Club 3 year old rum shaken with Cointreau,
lime and pineapple juice, topped with Angostura bitters
and Havana Club dark rum. Served in an Old Fashioned.

Espresso Martini

Absolut Vodka shaken with Kahlua coffee liqueur,
Café Pátron, double espresso and agave.
Served in a martini glass with coffee beans garnish.
